The French/Portuguese artist (1971) who studied, lives and works in Lisbon, affirmed her international career with an enormous chandelier called 'The Bride'. A 20 ft sculpture made of 25.000 tampons exhibited at the 2005 Venice Biennale. Much of her work deals with feminism, nationality and family. Vasconcelos incorporates in her art old fashioned crafts like knitting and crochet transforming the everyday realities into intensive and colorful assemblages. Joanna Vasconcelos was the first woman and the youngest contemporary artist to exhibit in Château de Versailles, Paris (2012).
